John McEnroe and Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic, the former world number one and 21-time singles Grand Slam champion, has been having tough times since his chances of playing on the hard court season seem to be minimal. He has already missed out on playing at the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open and the probability of participating in the US Open 2022 is almost unsure as he is still ‘unvaccinated‘.
He has had a controversial-laden start to the year over his vaccination status and his decision not to get anything injected into his body that goes against his principles has been the same over the course of time. He has been firm in his stance and it kept him out of the Australian Open where he was deported from the country. It impacted his performances at the French Open where he could not defend his title facing defeat to Daniil Medvedev.
Amis all the struggles and debates over his choice, he shut down all the haters with his win at the All England Club as he defended his title to win his 7th Wimbledon singles title and 4th title in a row defeating Nick Kyrgios in his maiden singles final appearance. He is just one major title win away from equalling with Rafael Nadal‘s record of 22 title wins.

John McEnroe, former World No. 1 and 7-time Grand Slam champion, recently in an interview, expressed his disagreement with Novak Djokovic‘s ban on entering the country and playing at the US Open is uncertain even though some remarkable changes have been made to the guidelines. He added “Well, first of all, I think it’s BS. That’s what I think. He should be allowed to play. My personal opinion is that I’ve been vaccinated, I had the booster shot, and that’s up to the individual. If I were him and I’m not him, you know.“
He also revealed that it should be the player’s decision about what to inject something or how to treat your own body and the Serbian legend deserve respect and freedom to make his own decision. He also stated that where he was allowed to play at the last year’s US Open then this ban on the player is not at all acceptable. He further said, “He sticks to his guns and is perfectly entitled to make the decision. The guy is one of the greatest athletes in any sport. He’s very careful about anything he puts in his body, so it’s frustrating to see at this point that he’s not allowed to enter the country because he’s not vaccinated.“
