Novak Djokovic won his clinched his 21st singles Grand Slam title defeating Nick Kyrgios in the finals of the 2022 Wimbledon Championship. This was his 7th Wimbledon win and also the 4th win consecutively. He surpassed Roger Federer‘s tally of 20 and is just one major away from Rafael Nadal‘s tally of 22, the record holder for most singles Grand Slam titles.

Djokovic is ecstatic with his win as he had been facing a lot of challenges from the start of the year 2022. The year started with his deportation from the 2022 Australian Open due to his ‘not-vaccinated’ status. This affected him emotionally, personally, and professionally as he faced an exit in the quarter-finals of the 2022 French Open. This win was crucial for him and his family as it shut down all the criticism he had been facing and it showed what a true champion is made of.

Tennis legend and 7-time Grand Slam champion, John McEnroe applauded Djokovic on his mental toughness and how he dealt with it despite so many hurdles. He said that “Novak didn’t get the credit he deserves, he has class. I don’t agree with her decision not to get vaccinated, but I respect her. He is one of the fittest men in the world and everything he puts into his body he watches closely.

He further said that “So much so that he was kicked out of Australia, are you kidding me? The way it all turned out was just awful, so I respect him even more for getting over those things. He must be the mentally strongest player I have ever seen on a tennis court. Nadal is a beast of effort, but Djokovic is incredible mentally. What he is able to manage and still succeed at this extraordinary level“.

McEnroe also hopes to see Djokovic playing in the 2022 US Open although it is still uncertain about it.
