“He will be key for the future,” Dominic Thiem admits to being a fan of Chelsea’s record signing Enzo Fernandez
Dominic Thiem says he is a big fan of Chelsea big-name signing Enzo Fernandez.
Dominic Thiem, Enzo Fernandez
Dominic Thiem has had a forgettable last couple of years on the tour. The Austrian has struggled with several injuries, which has seen his ranking come down to 99th in the world. The 2020 US Open champion will compete in his first clay court tournament of the year in Buenos Aires this week.
It is no surprise that Dominic Thiem is an ardent follower of the English football club, Chelsea. The London club has splashed money in the two transfer windows this season and has completely revamped their side altogether. Chelsea set a new club record when they signed Argentine midfielder, Enzo Fernandez in the winter transfer window.
The former Benfica man was signed by Chelsea for a sum equaling almost 107 million. The youngster grabbed the attention of several European clubs after his outstanding performances in Argentina’s FIFA World Cup-winning campaign in Qatar. Dominic Thiem admits to being a big fan of Enzo Fernandez and believes he has a long future at the club.
“I saw the World Cup and when Chelsea started negotiating with him I was happy and started hoping that everything would go well for him to be bought. He started very well, playing amazingly in the first two games, and he is only 21 years old, so he will also be key for the future and will be at the club for a long time,” said Thiem.

“I feel complete from a physical point of view,” Dominic Thiem ready to fight in 2023
Dominic Thiem has given a positive update ahead of his clash against Alex Molcan in the first round of the Buenos Aires Open. The Austrian claims that he is in much better physical shape, and is ready to put up a fight this season.
“In the two years since winning the Grand Slam title, I’ve had a lot of good experiences and I’m sure they’ve helped me grow for what’s to come from now on. Now everything is fine, I feel complete from a physical point of view, I’m ready to fight again and I hope to be closer to the top players as the months go by,” said Thiem.
Dominic Thiem is yet to win a single match on tour this season after he lost in the first round of the 2023 Australian Open. Ranked just inside the top 100, the 2020 US Open champion stated that his main goal is to rise in the rankings once again. The next couple of months will be crucial for Dominic Thiem, given that he has a good opportunity to push his rankings higher during the clay court season.
“I’m looking forward to winning a match this year, that’s the first big goal. I want to get out of this moment and let things flow. Then I want my ranking to go up. I have many goals, but the ranking is fundamental because I’m having trouble getting into the main tables of ATP tournaments. I have to finish this series,” he added.
