“He won’t stop until he wins 30 Grand Slams” Goran Ivanisevic reveals Novak Djokovic’s ultimate desire
Goran Ivanisevic and Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic created history when he won the finals of Wimbledon Championship 2022 defeating Nick Kyrgios in a dramatic and thriller four-set match. He remains undefeated on the grass court extending his 28-match winning streak with his 7th Wimbledon title and fourth title in a row. He is just one major away from equalling Rafael Nadal‘s record of most number of singles Grand Slam titles.
This was his first title of the year since he could participate in the Australian Open 2022 owing to his ‘unvaccinated status’ followed by his deportation. This affected his performance at the French Open 2022 as he got defeated in the quarter-finals against the champion Rafael Nadal. His participation at the US Open 2022 is creating jitters among all the tennis fans and the final decision regarding his appearance at the last Grand Slam event of this year is still uncertain as he is ‘still unvaccinated’ and has no intention of getting the vaccination soon.
“He hopes to achieve it in the next five years”Goran Ivanisevic on Novak Djokovic’s plans
Novak Djokovic, the 21-time Grand Slam champion, is being coached by former Croatian player Goran Ivanisevic, the only player who has won the Wimbledon title as a wild-card entrant. Ivanisevic who has been Djokovic’s coach for the past 18 years, has time and again shown his support for the player especially after the Serbian faced a lot of criticism due to his ‘no-vaccination’ stance which led to his uncertainty about participating in the US Open 2022. He has always been upfront about his views regarding the Serbian stance and supports him fully as he feels it should be the player’s decision to decide regarding his body.
Among all the controversies going on, Ivanisevic recently in an interview with a Croatian agency, spills the beans about Djokovic’s ultimate desire before he announces his retirement. He has been speaking about this dream for the longest period probably since he was young. He said “I spoke with Djokovic the first time we met when he was nine. It was only when we were thirteen that we started working together. Now we have been working together for 18 years, which is a very long time.“
He further revealed the Serbian’s future plans in his career and what he wishes to desire but the priority being winning 30 Grand Slams and he will go to any extent to achieve it until he can perform to the best of his abilities and fewer injuries. He added “Each time he repeated his desire to reach 30 Grand Slam tournaments. He will play for the next five years and will have the chance to take this step.“
