Nick Kyrgios reached his first ever Grand Slam final at the 2022 Wimbledon Championship but faced defeat from the Serbian maestro Novak Djokovic who won his 7th Wimbledon title and 4th win in a row. Kyrgios played fantastically at his debut final but soon, the game slid from his hands when he started getting irritated and lost his patience. He has been dealing with some serious anger management issues and he has also been fined for it.
The Aussie is yet to win a singles Grand Slam title but has six ATP tour singles titles to his name. He has already four wins over the top 10 players this year and reached three semifinals on the ATP tour. He played in the finals of the Cincinnati Open in the year 2017. The Western & Southern Open, also known as the Cincinnati Open is an ATP Masters1000 event held ahead of the US Open.
Nick Kyrgios makes a comeback to the Cincinnati Open after 3 years
During the second-round match against Karen Khachanov in the year 2019 at the Cincinnati Open, Kyrgios started showing his anger by smashing racquets, abusing verbally, and did not show the true spirit of sportsmanship. Later on, the Aussie was issued a suspension of 16 weeks. Three years, after the incident, Kyrgios is making his comeback as a wild-card entrant to the tour. It will mark Kyrgios’ sixth appearance in Cincinnati and first since 2019.
Wild cards give players a chance to play an event after they fail to qualify for the particular event based on rankings. Kyrgios’s rankings did not improve much after a successful stint at Wimbledon due to the ATP decision not to award ranking points to the tournament participants.
Just ahead of the Cincinnati Open, Kyrgios will be seen participating in the ATP250 Atlanta Open where he succeeded back in the year 2016.
