“He’s been defaulted, broken racquets,” Tennis Twitter goes into a meltdown as Novak Djokovic is omitted from the list of Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award nominees

Although, the 2022 tennis season has almost come to its conclusion, yet the drama continues off the court. Novak Djokovic has been left out of the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award nominees, which has sparked yet another debate on social media. The award is handed to the player who displays high levels of sportsmanship spirit over the course of the year.
Rafael Nadal has been named in the list of nominees once again. The Spaniard has won this award in the last four consecutive years, and is the favorite to hold on to the title this time as well. The likes of Cameron Norrie, Carlos Alcaraz are also named in the list of nominees.
However, the exclusion of Novak Djokovic has become a point for argument. Many fans believe that the entire Australian Open fiasco which took place earlier this year has impacted the Serbian adversely. Some ‘Nole’ fans argue that the ATP has been unfair towards the Serbian once again in this situation.

Novak Djokovic excluded from list of Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award nominees

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have been dominating this particular award since the last two decades. No player except the duo have claimed this award since 2004. A few ardent followers of Novak Djokovic have been surprised by the Serbian’s exclusion from this year’s nominees.
However, other fans argued that Novak Djokovic has not displayed the best sportsmanship on the court this season. He has smashed racquets, and his involvement in the Australian visa case does not warrant him a nomination.
Novak Djokovic recently claimed the Nitto ATP Finals title in Turin, Italy. The Serbian defeated Casper Ruud in the finals to end his season on a high. The 21-time major champion’s Australian visa ban has been overturned, and he will be eligible to compete in the first major of 2023.
