Nick Kyrgios, the 27-year-old Australian has finally reached his maiden major finals at the 2022 Wimbledon, Kyrgios beat Cristian Garin in the quarter-finals 6-4 6-3 7-6 (7-5) and progressed through the semis where he was scheduled to face off against Rafael Nadal but Nadal withdrew from the match following an abdominal tear which gave Kyrgios a walkover in the finals where he is scheduled to face Novak Djokovic tomorrow.
Ahead of his first major final, Kyrgios admitted to feeling nervous about facing one of the best players in the world Novak Djokovic, Kyrgios is known for his personality both on and off the court, and with his excellent skills, he is hailed by many as one of the most talented players ever to play Tennis. His mentality, however, has always been a topic of interest among many and popular opinion dictates that professionalism would take Kyrgios right to the top.
“He’s so smart on the court, he doesn’t even need a coach!” John Mcenroe full of praise for Nick Kyrgios
Tennis legend John Mcenroe was full of praise for Kyrgios ahead of his maiden Wimbledon finals tomorrow, Mcenroe said, “He’s a very smart young man. He’s liked in the dressing room. He is the most talented player, I believe, in the last ten years in the men’s game. He just hasn’t been able to put it together mentally for a variety of reasons.“
Mcenroe insisted that it was Kyrgios’s mentality that has held him back from realizing his potential, “He needs to go out there, give it your all and chips will fall where they may. He’s not been able to do that consistently. He’s out having a beer, he doesn’t want to train and that will affect your results in tournaments. We have been begging him to get it right because this guy moves the needle big time.
“He’s so good for the game. He’s got five or six different ways to blow off steam. I know about that as I’ve been through it myself. The bottom line is, that when he competes he is an incredible talent” Mcenroe further added in comments reported by Tennisuptodate. With Kyrgios winner against Djokovic in both of their matches so far and Novak going for his 4th consecutive Wimbledon title, it will surely be an entertaining clash on Sunday when the two men meet.
