He decide to make his comeback at the Cincinnati Open and had a chance of becoming the number one entering into the US Open if he would have won the title but he was handed an early round defeat by the eventual winner Borna Coric.

He also talked about the chances of Nadal ending the year as number one.
He said “When he has played, his level has been spectacular, especially in important moments. It is normal that little by little his body fails.“
Carlos Moya is hopeful of Rafael Nadal having a great run at the Nitto ATP Finals
Rafael Nadal will be up against Frances Tiafoe in the Round of 16. He has qualified to play at the 2022 Nitto ATP Finals where he has never won a title in his career. He will be looking for a win this year since he has been quite consistent this year and will be hoping to continue his form.
Carlos Moya is hopeful that Rafa that change his chances at the Nitto ATP finals. He said “If he can win the tournament, all the better. In 2020 he came very close to passing when he lost to Medvedev in the semi-finals. He was a set up, 5-4, and served. It was the closest chance he’s ever had, even if he still didn’t fall in the final. Because of how he was playing and because of the feeling we all had. If he can win it this year, wonderful.“
