In a recent statement, tennis legend Boris Becker officially revealed that he will coach the 20-year-old Holger Rune. The German, who is no stranger to winning Grand Slams himself, is focused on helping the youngster through the drought phase and making him one of the best in the game.

“My aim is to find the best Holger. The tournament schedule has to fit that. If he plays every week, he’ll get tired at some point. This is where regeneration is called for, and maybe you can go on holiday with your girlfriend for ten days. That’s part of the planning because, ultimately, I’m partly responsible for its success. It’s all a puzzle that we have to put together so that the boy plays his best tennis,” revealed Boris in an interview on Eurosports.

Becker has already had the honor of coaching Novak to six Grand Slam titles, and this experience will come in handy in getting a youngster off a rough patch. Holger Rune, who is having a season of exits, will have to evolve under new leadership and try to prove why he is one of the most promising youngsters in the fixture.

Boris Becker reveals his plans on how to go about handling Holger Rune

“We need close contact because I can only help him if I know how he’s feeling. That doesn’t just apply on the pitch, but also in his private life. Does he have worries? Is he on a high? All of this has an impact on his performance in training,” reveals Boris as to how he plans to handle Rune, who has currently faced another early exit in the Stockholm Open.

Danish player Holger Rune, who has risen fast to No. 4, has recently been seeing himself out of the tournament much earlier than he would like. This decreased his ranking, making him World No. 6.

His new coach, Boris, believes that it’s a crucial phase for the youngster, who needs to have his mother around him and coaches trying to work on his game. By the end of their coaching tenure, Boris wants to ensure that Rune ends up as one of the best in the game and a worthy opponent for the others.
