Danish tennis player Holger Rune has been trialing out Boris Becker in Monaco before the Stockholm Open. The youngster recently shared pictures of him training with Becker and his team, hinting at a potential partnership with the German coach, who is looking to return to his coaching career.

Rune’s current form has been downright poor. His back injury has taken a toll on his form, which is directly hampering his performance on the big stage. The last time the Danish won back-to-back matches was back in the 2023 Wimbledon Open, where he eventually lost to Carlos Alcaraz, the eventual winner, in the quarterfinal of the tournament.

Since then, he has won only one match in the past three months. His performance in the Shanghai Masters was particularly disappointing, as he got eliminated by Brandon Nakashima in the first round itself.

Patrick Mouratoglou has been the coach of Holger Rune since late 2022. After Rune’s poor performances lately, he ended his terms with the French coach and is now looking for new guidance. That is where Boris Becker might come in handy, and many are of the opinion that this will be the right direction to go for Rune and might turn the fate of his career completely.

Boris Becker was recently released from prison and deported from the United Kingdom after serving eight months of his two-and-a-half-year sentence. The German tennis player was charged with hiding £2.5 million of assets and loans in a bankruptcy fraud case. He is now looking to revive his coaching career and has apparently found the means to do so.

Boris Becker’s track record as a coach

Boris Becker made a name for himself as a coach while he was on Novak Djokovic’s team. He was the Serbian’s coach between 2014 and 2016. During this period, Novak won six Grand Slam titles and 14 ATP 1000s titles. This goes on to show how perfect this duo was and how good Boris Becker is as a coach.

Becker was also a sensational player back in his day. He has 49 singles titles and 15 doubles titles to his name. Moreover, he won six Grand Slam titles, which tells us how great a player he actually was. The German is one of those rare cases where a great player turns into a great coach.
