Danish tennis ace Holger Rune was served a shock by Boris Becker as the German resigned from his role as the Head Coach for the Dane on Tuesday. Becker stepped down “due to professional and private responsibilities.” With this, a short partnership came to an end. With Becker gone, Rune’s search for the ‘perfect coach’ continues and the World No.7 has reviewed his struggles with the same.

Rune admitted that he has been unable to find the perfect coach for himself in the past 12 months. The Danish also shared the potential reason behind it. Talking about the future prospects, Rune says that he now understands what he is looking for. The Danish ace wants someone who has the same vision and can devote time.

As you know, I have tried many coaching constellations over the past 12 months. It has not been easy to find the perfect match in the first attempt because I have worked with the same coach for 15 years my entire tennis life.
Holger Rune said via his Instagram account
I have learned a lot and found out what is important for me to feel good and at the same time develop. I have big ambitions and big goals, and I need people around me who have the same visions and who I can trust to achieve my goals.
The Danish ace further stated.

Will Severin Luthi replace Boris Becker as Holger Rune’s head coach?

Boris Becker’s exit comes 48 days after Severin Luthi joined Holger Rune’s coaching team. The Swiss who worked with Roger Federer for a significant time recently joined forces with Rune. Now, with Becker parting ways, Luthi might get a promotion and become Rune’s Head Coach.

Although Rune took Luthi’s name while thanking his coaching team, the 48-year-old has the potential to take up the Head Coach’s position. Rune is struggling to find the perfect match and Luthi, joining the Dane’s coaching team, indicates that Rune sees the Swiss as his coach.

Also, Severin Luthi comes with a strong portfolio. The Swiss has coached a legend in Federer and has also worked with Switzerland’s Davis Cup team. However, there is a catch. According to reports floating in the media, Rune has already parted ways with Luthi over scheduling conflicts.

This leaves Kenneth Carlsen as the only immediate option for Holger Rune. The former Danish player has worked with Rune for short stints since his youth—including in 2024’s first week when Rune finished runner-up to Grigor Dimitrov at the Brisbane International. Also, Rune did not mention Carlsen in the story shared on his Instagram.
