Danish wunderkind Holger Rune has his say about the rift with Norwegian fourth seed Casper Ruud following his victory in the Rome Masters semi-finals. The final score was 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 6-2. This is the first-ever victory for Rune over Ruud in five attempts. Their last meeting was in the intense quarterfinals of the French Open in 2022. However, the match led to an off-court rivalry, as the Dane accused Ruud of ‘misbehavior’ in the dressing room. The Norwegian refuted the accusations and stated that World No. 7 should stop creating his own stories.

As Rune said, “Yeah, we didn’t practice actually. All good. I mean, we obviously talk after French Open and we’re good. I have zero problems with him. He’s a great
player. He’s showing some of his best tennis, especially on clay. He’s tough to play. I respect him a lot. I’m happy to finally get my first win over him

Ruud has also stated before the Nordic clash that he wishes to end their match this time in a more peaceful manner. Ruud opined after his quarterfinal victory that their relationship is currently ‘quite’ peaceful and that they share a respect for each other. He even added that their achievements are a symbol of Scandinavian success.

The Danish World No. 7 has been playing some of his best tennis over the past few months. The sheer athleticism and the ability to adapt in crucial moments have been key for the Dane. The positive results in recent months have been proof of that. Though the Dane has been consistently involved in on-court and off-court controversies, he makes sure that none of it is affecting his tennis.

Holger Rune has now won his last seven matches against top-5 opponents. He always shows up when the going gets tough. This distinct mindset makes him a different beast from the rest of the field. Depending on his current form and his convincing performances, Rune will be a title contender for this year’s French Open, where Rafael Nadal is not playing.

Holger Rune will be facing the winner of the semi-final between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev. Rune has a 2-0 head-to-head record against the Greek and a 1-0 record against the Russian.
