Holger Rune, the emerging tennis sensation, has made a surprising claim by referring to Novak Djokovic as the easiest opponent to play against for a specific reason. Rune also highlighted his past successful records against the 23-time Grand Slam winner. In their most recent encounter, Rune caused an upset in the quarterfinals of the Italian Open, securing victory over Djokovic with a scoreline of 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
Holger Rune stands out as one of the few players with a better head-to-head (H2H) record against Novak Djokovic, holding a 2-1 lead over the Serbian. Their most recent encounter where Djokovic emerged victorious was back in 2021 when Rune was just 18 years old.
The young and rebellious tennis player, Holger Rune, acknowledges that Novak Djokovic’s mindset is his greatest asset and admires it. When referred to as Djokovic’s “nemesis,” Rune responded with a perfect reply, displaying both his self-assurance against his opponent and his deep respect for the tennis icon.
Holger Rune said, “Yeah, I said it before, like in a way he’s the toughest player to play but also the easiest player to play because you know you have to play your best tennis. In a way you’re not hoping for him to miss or for him to give you anything. For my mindset it’s very simple. I go in there to play to win every point. If I don’t do that, I have no chance. If I do that and miss, okay, I’m still going to lose, but that’s my only chance. In my mindset, it’s simple what I have to do. I think that’s something I also could learn to bring to other matches.”
In Wimbledon 2023, Novak Djokovic and Holger Rune find themselves in different halves of the tournament draw. Should both players successfully navigate their respective halves and advance to the final, they are anticipated to face each other in the championship match, setting the stage for an exciting showdown between the experienced tennis legend and the rising young talent.
Holger Rune won his first-round match-up and is gearing up for the next one
In his first-round match at Wimbledon, Holger Rune emerged victorious over British wildcard George Loffhagen, securing a spot in the second round. As predicted, Rune dominated the match, winning in straight sets. Loffhagen displayed resilience in the first set, but the game’s interruption due to rain on the first day affected his momentum, and he couldn’t sustain the same level of fight on the subsequent day. The final scoreline stood at 7-6, 6-3, 6-2 in favor of Rune.
Holger Rune’s performance was not as satisfactory as anticipated. He committed two double faults and provided his opponent with five break-point opportunities. Additionally, despite having 11 chances to break his opponent’s serve, the sixth-seeded Rune only managed to convert three of those opportunities.
Holger Rune will need to elevate his performance in the next round as he is set to face either Matteo Arnaldi or Roberto Carballes Baena tomorrow. Facing a new opponent, Rune will have to bring his A-game and make necessary adjustments to secure a victory and advance further in the tournament.
