World No. 7 Holger Rune refused to reveal the specifics he was working on with his new coach, Boris Becker, in an interview with Eurosport. The Dane revealed that he was pleased to be working with the German great. He also admitted that their partnership resulted from the duo knowing each other prior to the agreement.

Rune said:

We've known each other for some years now and I thought that he has great experience, both with his own career, but also as a coach.

The 20-year-old was referring to Becker’s stellar career, where he reached the World No. 1 ranking. The German had won six Grand Slam titles over his career which lasted for nearly two decades. He also holds an Olympic Gold medal in the doubles event at the Barcelona Olympics, in 1992. He has had a noteworthy coaching career as well. Becker had coached Novak Djokovic to win six of his 24 Grand Slam titles. The Serb was under Becker’s tutelage when he was at his absolute prime.

He added:

So we talked a little bit, and we had a great practice week in Monaco, and here we are. It was my own decision to look around to see what I thought would fit me.

He admitted that he felt this would be a good partnership for the progress of his career. The Dane was at absolute peak form when he won the title at the 2022 Paris Masters, defeating Novak Djokovic. However, he has seen a loss in form over the past year. He was hit in the face with nine losses out of the last ten matches before he partnered with the German great. Following their partnership, Rune made it to the semi-final of the Basel 500 event.

When asked about the specifics of the areas he was working on with his new coach, he replied:

We will keep that a secret. You will all see on the court.

While the Dane was vague about the tips he was getting from the German coach, he was confident that audiences would be able to see the effects on the court.

Rune said:

You will all see on the court. I think that's important. You cannot have me [with] one opinion, he's another opinion, you have to go in the same direction and that's we're doing.

He emphasized that the duo were trying to move in the same direction with respect to their training.

Since the beginning of their partnership, Rune has begun to show some good results. He made it to the semi-final of the Basel 500 event, where he was defeated by Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime. He is now set to face Dominic Thiem in the Paris Masters, where he will hope to defend his title.
