NextGen sensation Holger Rune has been one of the most promising players to be on tour. With a constant rise in form, the youngster has been on the lookout for a maiden breakthrough in tennis but hasn’t found one just yet.

The addition of legendary German coach Boris Becker into his team fit like the missing piece of the puzzle and Rune transformed into a much better player than he was a few months ago. Under the guidance of Becker, Rune had some phenomenal wins towards the end of 2023. Just as it seemed like the Dane was going strong with his team, news was out that he had dropped his coach Severin Luthi out of his team.

Luthi, one of the most experienced coaches, who was with Roger Federer for over 15 years, was dropped from Rune’s team only after a month of working with him. Rune started working with Federer’s former coach in December. His mother and manager, Aneke Rune stated to TV2 Sport:

The timing with Severin was not quite right. Holger needs a coach who is with him all the time and a super coach.

With the exclusion of Luthi, his other coach Kenneth Carlsen got a huge promotion. From an assistant coach, he will become a permanent coach for Rune’s team. In addition to this, Boris Becker continues strong as the German is keen on making Rune a worthy player in tennis with Grand Slam-winning qualities.

Holger Rune continues his season after a heart-breaking early exit from the Australian Open

Holger Rune, one of the promising youngsters, entered the 2024 Australian Open as one of the favorites to win the title. Ever since he collaborated with Becker, Rune has become a force to reckon with.

However, his Australian Open run was rather short after a disappointing exit in the second round against Arthur Cazaux. In a tough 4-setter, Rune lost his way trying to make a comeback and faced a small upset.

Despite this loss, the Dane is back on the courts, hoping to improve throughout the year. After a major change in his coaching department, Rune is back on the court as he gears up to face Pablo Ruiz at the Open Sud De France. Having entered the tournament as the No.1 seed, Rune hopes to get a trophy to continue his momentum and get some points before the start of ATP 1000 tournaments.
