Holger Rune ‘SUPER HAPPY’ after Caroline Wozniacki invites him to play mixed doubles at 2024 Olympics

Denmark’s Holger Rune talked about a potential team-up with compatriot Caroline Wozniacki at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. In the 2016 Rio Olympics, Wozniacki lost to Petra Kvitova in the second round.
Rune is currently playing at the Championships and is set to play his second-round match against Spain’s Roberto Carballes Baena. In the first round, Rune defeated Britain’s George Loffhagen in straight sets with the score of 7-6(7-4), 6-3, 6-2. The first set was an intense one, but Rune easily won the next two sets.
After the match, he talked about how happy he is that compatriot Caroline Wozniacki is making a comeback to the tennis post becoming a mom and also hinted at a possible mixed-doubles match at the Olympics next year. Rune responded to Wozniacki’s proposal, which she had made on ESPN.
“I was so happy when she said that. It could be very, very funny,” he told Tennis Channel after his win over Loffhagen. “You know I’m super happy she’s coming back,” Rune added that when he saw her at the French Open and she looked in good shape, he told his mom about the same.
Meanwhile, Rune and Carballes Baena met just once where the latter emerged victorious. Their encounter was at the 2022 Cordoba Open in Argentina, where Baena secured the win in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.
Caroline Wozniacki to make a comeback at the US Open this year
Caroline Wozniacki shocked the tennis world when she announced that she would be making a comeback to tennis after over three years. The Dane last played competitive tennis in 2020 at the Australian Open. In the third round, she lost to Tunisian star Ons Jabeur. Wozniacki had then announced her decision to retire from tennis in 2020.
The 32-year-old said, post comeback she wants to compete at the 2023 US Open. In a Twitter post, she talked about the goals she wants to accomplish and also to show her kids that they can go for their dreams no matter what.
Wozniacki is a former world number one, and she stayed at the top position for 71 weeks after becoming the top player in 2010. This also made her the first Scandinavian to do so. She has won one Grand Slam, at the Australian Open in 2018, and played the US Open finals in 2009 and 2014.
