After a split with Boris Becker, Holger Rune announced his long-term partnership with Patrick Mouratoglou on Wednesday.
After failing to fulfill his goals with his ex-coach Becker, Rune has laid forward his targets, which he wishes to fulfill with his new coach. Moreover, in the official statement shared by World No. 7, Rune stated the need for the correct type of coaching around him to fulfill his goals.
Even his mother shared this statement in her official Instagram handle.
It is common knowledge that I am determined to win Grand Slam titles. And reach that number one spot on the world ranking. That requires the right coaching constellation and team surrounding me.Rune wrote in the statement.
With that being said, it seems like the Danish player is quite confident in his new partnership with the French coach and is taking on the likes of Novak Djokovic to win Grand Slam titles.
Mouratoglou also spoke about the high dreams and aspirations he has for the Danish player. The French coach has a lot of experience coaching big names such as Serena Williams and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Notably, the coaching team of Rune will feature Mouratoglou as the head coach, and former Danish player Kenneth Carlsen will be assisting the team.
Patrick Mouratoglou and Holger Rune reunite for the 2024 season
Rune and Patrick Mouratoglou had known each other for a long time. The Danish player was a prodigy of the French coach’s foundation. For those unaware, Mouratoglou also had a short yet effective stint with the Rune from October 2022 to August 2023.
During this time, the French coach helped Rune clinch a career-high fourth ranking. Besides, he also won his second ATP title in Stockholm. That’s not all; adding to the titles, he also won the Paris Masters, beating Novak Djokovic in the finals.
The duo has already started together. Rune will be featured next in the ATP tournament in Acapulco, Mexico, scheduled to start on February 26th. Besides, the Danish player has some big tournaments coming up for him in the season, such as the Indian Wells Masters and the French Open.
