World No. 7 Holger Rune continues to make good use of his name and fame. The 20-year-old has been in the limelight for his tennis skills, but his off-court activities are also getting deserving attention.

After a few poor results, the Dane found his form at the 2024 Acapulco Open. However, his run ended in the semi-finals against a spirited Casper Ruud. The Norwegian won the tie 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Ruud, however, finished as the runner-up as defending champ Alex de Minaur made a successful title defense.

As Rune now prepares for the upcoming 2024 Indian Wells Masters, the former World No. 4 has signed up for a good cause. He has pledged a big donation from every match that he will be playing at the maiden Masters event of the season.

The donation will be based on the number of aces the youngster will hit during his matches at the Tennis Paradise. For every ace, Rune has pledged 2500 DKK (USD 364 approximately). The proceedings will be then sent to Borns Vilkar, a Danish organization that works for vulnerable children.

Rune’s mother, Aneke, confirmed the news claiming the four-time Tour title winner is averaging 10 aces every match. This will lead to a big donation from every match. She further disclosed that a minimum of DKK 50,000 (USD 7283) will be made in any case.

Holger Rune opens up on his childhood experiences that influenced his decision

Rune has been under the positive influence of his parents massively. Coming from a small country like Denmark, he had an early exposure to various aspects of his life. While his parents worked hard to provide the best for him, he was always made aware of the challenges many others face.

Taking note of it, the World No. 7 has decided to try to make a difference finally. With a rapid rise on the Tour, he is using his fame and money positively.

All children have the right to a safe childhood and an adult to talk to, and therefore it means a lot to me to help support Børns Vilkår, which does a huge job every day to help vulnerable children in Denmark. I myself am very aware of the privileged childhood I have had, and how important it has been to my life and the opportunities I have today.
Said Rune via Ekstra Bladet
Unfortunately, not everyone is aware of this, and it always makes an incredibly big impression on me when I hear about children who are exposed to failure. Therefore, it is really a matter of my heart to be able to support Børns Vilkår.
concluded the Dane.

His mother also recalled an incident when a young Holger was left shocked by an incident in the emergency room of a hospital. Seeing a young boy aged between 8 and 10 visited the ER without his parents. Aneke believed it was a ‘wakeup call’ for Holger on his compatriots’ difficulties.

It made a huge impression on Holger. It was a wakeup call for him. Even in a country like Denmark, where you think that everything is a fairy tale, there are also some stories that are not always rosy. It is very important to him that children should feel good and be happy.

Having won the Paris Masters in 2022, Rune is always expected to make big runs at the Masters events, especially on hard courts. But with him having extra motivation at this year’s events, many more fans will hope that he has a fantastic run in the Californian desert.

So far, in his three appearances at the Masters event, he has improved his results. After a first-round exit during his debut in 2021, he made the second round in 2022 coming in from the qualifiers. In 2023, he lost in the third round to three-time singles Grand Slam title winner Stan Wawrinka.
