Holger Rune spits facts in a recent interview after his first-round victory as he speaks about the infamous Netflix curse and makes a striking comparison to Novak Djokovic.
Netflix released a series ‘BreakPoint’ documenting certain players and their journeys at the 2022 Australian Open. Unfortunately, after a successful season on Netflix, 10 of those featured players had an unsuccessful run at the 2023 Australian Open, giving rise to the ‘Netflix Curse’.
Players like Nick Kyrgios, Ajla Tomljanovic, and even Paula Badosa were sidelined due to injuries. The other players who played also suffered early losses. Matteo Berrettini, who was one of the favorites, lost in the first round, while Thanasi Kokkinakis and Taylor Fritz lost in the second round, respectively.
Holger Rune, who starred in the latest season of Break Point 2, was asked if he believed in the curse. Surprisingly, the young professional shrugged it off, saying it’s stupid.
With the example of Aryna Sabalenka, who won the Australian Open last year, Rune proved his point of not believing in the curse as he advanced to the next round at the Australian Open.

Netflix’s series BreakPoint released its brand new season, starring new players. While the previous season was already a hit, it also faced a lot of trolls and memes about jinxing the players.
While Rune starred in the new season, he doesn’t believe in the curse and also calls it stupid. With the example of Novak Djokovic, the Danish star justified his point by pointing out that the Serbian can do many shows like these while winning 20 or 24 Slams.
I think it's stupid, to be honest. No offense. I think it's nothing to do with that. I think Novak could do ten Netflix series & still win 20 Grand Slams or 24.Said Rune to the Australian Open press.
With the Australian Open just beginning, all eyes will be on the case of the new season and how their luck turns out to be.
As of now, Holger Rune went through his first match in a four-setter thriller. He beat Japanese player Yoshihito Nishioka 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-4 to mark his spot in the top 64.
After changing his coach, the world has witnessed an all-powerful Rune who seemed to flip that switch and play brilliant tennis. With this form, the youngster is one of the contenders for the title and a favorite to do well throughout the year.
