Tennis star Holger Rune is officially in the Top 10 following his title at the 2022 Paris Masters. Up against defending champion Novak Djokovic, who was going for his 7th title in Paris, Rune had to make a comeback after losing the first set to win the match 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. It was Rune’s third title of the season and his maiden Masters-1000 title.

The teen sensation had been making a name for himself in the Challenger series prior to this season. Coming to the big league, Rune did not disappoint as he made it to the quarter-finals of the 2022 French Open and the third round of the 2022 US Open as well with some consistent results on the Tour.

Rune received a coaching boost as Patrick Mouratoglou joined his camp shortly after the US Open. Rune had been training at the Mouratoglou Academy for some time, but now has the Frenchman as an important part of his coaching team. Following the win over Djokovic, Mouratoglou was moved by the Dane’s efforts and posted a beautiful message for him.

Rune continues to be coached by Lars Christensen with their association now for over 13 years. Christensen became Rune’s coach when the teen was just 6 years old and to date remains his head coach. Rune is also coached by his mother Aneke Rune, who has been a constant presence in his box throughout the season.

“Lars, you’ve done an amazing job with Holger ever since he was 6 years old. Your connection with him is just magical, and it’s a joy to work with such a professional, dedicated, and rigorous coach.

“Finally, Novak, you are one of the best, if not the best, player in the history of the game, and today you have shown your class and fair play. I’m sure there will be many more battles to come in the future!” added Mouratoglou further in his post.

With the ATP regular season now over, only the 2022 ATP Finals remain. While Djokovic is already qualified finishing in the Top-8 in the singles race, Rune will be one of the alternates at the year-end championships in Turin, Italy next week. Knowing the camaraderie Djokovic and Rune shared, it won’t be a surprise if the two are seen training together, much to the delight of their viewers.
