After defending her son for his performance in recent events, Holger Rune‘s mother, Aneke, opened up about the history of her tough relationship with her son. 3-times Grand Slam champion Andy Murray‘s mother Judy Murray chimed in to praise the 20-year-old’s mother.

Opening up on her tough relationship with her son, Aneke said that she has always been honest with the Dane. She also talked about how the 20-year-old has evolved to become more open with his mother as compared to when he was a teenager.

Appreciating Rune’s mother, Judy Murray, mother of British tennis pro, Andy Murray stated that she could not agree more with Aneke. 

I couldn’t agree more with Aneke. She will always be the person who is ? in her sons corner whatever the situation and it’s so important to have someone beside you who you can wholeheartedly trust.

Danish tennis player Holger Rune is not having a great time on the court as the 20-year-old has not been able to win a major title so far in 2023. While Rune has managed an ATP 250 title and has reached a few finals as well as semifinals, the Dane has failed miserably in the last three tournaments he has played- the China Open, Shanghai Masters, and Stockholm Open.

Holger Rune’s mother Aneke defends her son following criticism over his performance

Rune has faced heavy criticism from the tennis world following his first-round loss at the Stockholm Open despite being the top seed. As the third seed, the 20-year-old incurred a loss in straight sets to unseeded player Brandon Nakashima in his opening round at the Masters event in Shanghai as well. The Dane managed to score only two games in the entire match.

Rune’s mother, Aneke Rune, meanwhile, has come out in defense of the 20-year-old. She claimed that no one is perfect at 20. Aneke also blamed the media for talking trash about the youngster. 

You cannot please everybody if you say your opinion. Holger had a lot of sh*t in the media but he also has fans & followers in the media. I think if you look at other youngsters, nobody is perfect. If you try to pretend that as a young man, you’re absolutely perfect, then I think you give a wrong picture to all the other young kids that are 20 years old.

She justified Rune’s behavior by saying that pretending to be perfect when you are not gives a wrong impression.
