“Hope I can bring his shine, passion, and drive into the world,” Bernarda Pera dedicates her win at the Hamburg Open to her deceased coach Kristijan Schneider

Kristijan Schneider and Bernarda Pera
Bernarda Pera of the United States won the Hamburg Open title defeating World No 2 Anett Kontaveit of Estonia in straight sets 6-2,6-4 in one hour and 14 minutes. She played some amazing shots and looked totally in control. She had a fantastic season defeating all her opponents without dropping any sets, making it 12 straight sets of matches won in a row.
Last week, the American player won her first tour title in Budapest where she had come through the qualifying draws. She won seven matches in straight sets and continued her A-game to the clay tournament in Hamburg. With this second title win in a row, she will rise to a career-high ranking of No 55. In the previous meeting with Kontaveit at the All England Club, the outcome was completely opposite of what happened at the finals of the Hamburg Open.
Bernarda Pera wins her second title in a row

Bernarda Pera is on cloud nine professionally winning two titles in a row. But she has been in a lot of pain and emotional turmoil personally as she lost her coach Kristijan Schneider in a long battle with cancer in April. He was not only her coach but also a mentor, guide, friend, and most importantly a family to her. She dedicated her win to her former coach and wished she can keep his dreams alive.
She spoke “I was lucky enough to be coached by him. I want to dedicate this trophy to him, his memory and I hope I can bring a little bit of his shine, passion, and his drive to the world.” She missed her coach terribly and became very emotional and lost out of words at the post-match interview.
The 27-year-old joins names like Iga Swiatek, Ons Jabeur, and retired Ashleigh Barty as the sixth player to win multiple WTA Tour singles championships in the 2022 season. With this win, her confidence will be very high in her performance and will be one of the players who will be looked upon for having a good run at the 2022 US Open.
