Iga Swiatek was not too pleased with the result as Poland lost the United Cup despite her commendable effort.

Polish tennis ace and World No.1 Iga Swiatek was not happy with the result at the 2024 United Cup. As Poland lost to Germany in the final, Swiatek was left disappointed. Despite her comprehensive win against Angelique Kerber, Poland could not save the day with Alexander Zverev and Laura Siegemund holding Hubert Hurcakz and Iga Swiatek back.

While Zverev came back storming from a set behind and sealed a thrilling against Hurkacz, the Olympic gold medalist later partnered with Laura Siegemund to keep Swiatek and Hurkacz at bay in the mixed doubles event. The German pair won the match 6-4, 7-5, 10-4.

After ending on the wrong side of the result, Swiatek penned an emotional note on social media. The World No.1 rued missing out on the chance to clinch the title at the season-opening event. She also credited Germany for outplaying Poland and ending up as the champions. 

Sometimes it's the matter of tenths of a second, of millimeters, of one more stroke…that's sport and it constantly reminds us to stay humble and grounded. We did our best yesterday and Team Germany was better (congrats!).

She also apologized to the fans for not producing the result they expected. 

I know that you - our fans wished for different result but I hope you'd appreciate the effort, energy and quality the whole team brought throughout the whole tournament. We will have another chance to do better and we will (as always) again and again do our best.
The Polish ace further added.

Iga Swiatek looks at the positive side of the results

While Iga Swiatek was disappointed with the result, the World No.1 also looked at the positive side of it. The 22-year-old was happy to dish out some great performances throughout the week against some top-ranked opponents. Swiatek said she hopes to carry the momentum to the 2024 Australian Open.

On my end…that was a very solid week with some good performances against challenging opponents. So I'm heading to Melbourne with smile and some work to do.

Notably, Iga Swiatek was undefeated in her singles’ matches. She beat all of her opponents in straight sets except for Caroline Garcia.

The Polish ace had to fight it out against the Frenchwoman. But apart from that, Swiatek was as dominant as ever against her opponents. She beat Beatriz Haddad Maia, Qinwen Zheng, and Sorribes Tormo en route to the finals.
