Serena Williams, undoubetdly one of the greatest female athletes of the world, dropped the truth bomb regarding her retirement plans revealing that US Open will be the last major she will be playing before she picks up her racquet for the very final time. She has been very dominant during her long and outstanding career of nearly three decades paving her own very path to becoming one of the best players and inspiring millions to take the plunge she had taken years ago. She is the only player to have achieved a Golden Slam year in singles as well as doubles.

The American has won as many as 73 singles WTA titles including her 23 singles Grand Slam titles, the most by any player in the Open era, and is just one behind equalling Margaret Court‘s tally of 24 titles. She returned to the court during the grasscourt season after a gap of twelve months. Since her return, she has only managed to win only one out of four matches where the only win came in the first round of the Canadian Open but failed to go past the second round. She even had a disastrous loss to the young Brit Emma Raducanu, the US Open 2021 champion in the first round at the Western & Southern Open.

Venus Williams, the 7-time Grand Slam champion has won as many as 49 singles WTA titles and 22 doubles WTA titles and has been revolutionary in creating new chances for women’s tennis with her sister Serena Williams. The Williams sisters duo are a terrific pair who have been very dominant as they have together won as many as 14 doubles titles in the Grand Slams. They have also won three Olympic gold medals as a pair in the year 2000, 2008, and 2012. Serena and Venus became the world’s No. 1 in doubles for the very first time in 2010.

Serena and Venus received a wild-card entry to play in the doubles category at the US Open 2022 after a gap of four years since the last time they both played as a pair was in the year 2018 at the French Open where they failed to go past the Round of 16. They both as a pair played their last doubles match at the US Open in the year 2014. The diligent Williams sisters are looking at a strong comeback on their return since it will be the one final time they both will be playing since Serena is on the brink of her retirement.
