WTA Finals is considered to be one of the most prestigious tournaments in the WTA calendar year after the four Grand Slams. It offers the highest cash prize and points to the winners following the four major championships. This year’s tournament was held in Fort Worth, Texas, in The United States of America.
On Monday, France’s Carolina Garcia scored the biggest title of her professional career with a straight-set defeat of Aryna Sabalenka to bag the prestigious WTA Finals 2022. This is her fourth singles title this year and the tenth in her career. On the other hand, Sabalenka reached another final but could not win the tournament in 2022. This was her third WTA final this year.
Garcia broke the resilience of Sabalenka to take the first set 7-6 (7-4) in the tiebreaker. The Belarusian committed double faults in this set on her serve, which cost her the set. The French then cruised to hand a 6-4 defeat to the Belarusian in the second set and ultimately registered the 2022 WTA Finals title to her name. Her win over Sabalenka in the final earned her $1.24 million, coupled with a base participation fee of $110,000.
As per the total financial reward, the winner of the WTA Finals 2022 Caroline Garcia will take home a whopping $1.57 million. Aryna Sabalenka, on the other hand, will receive $1.19 million for her performance throughout the tournament. The winner of the doubles event will take home $365,000.
2022 WTA Finals: Caroline Garcia wins the biggest title of her career

In her post-match press conference, Caroline Garcia was jubilant to win the biggest title of her career.
“It’s definitely a lot of giant happiness. A crazy final, a lot of intensity on every point. Just really proud of the work we did through all the year. It was a great match — really went for it. I’m really happy to win my biggest title,” she said.
The French also said that the change in her mindset helped her very much. She remained calm throughout the match and focused more on her mental well-being, blocking out negative emotions as much as possible.
“Just very happy about the mindset, to be really calm at every moment. All the negative emotion doesn’t affect me, and that was really a big part of taking the few opportunities I had in the tiebreaker and the first game I broke her in the second,” she further added.
Meanwhile, Aryna Sabalenka introspected her performance on the court.
“I just dropped my level for a little bit. On the tiebreak and the first game of the second set. That’s it. I did my best, [but] she played unbelievable tennis,” she said.
The Belarusian must be proud of her performances this year. She held strong and gave her best in each of the tournaments that she played in.
