Hurkacz was understandably excited after defeating Rublev in the final of the 2023 Shanghai Masters, which took him closer to the ATP Finals. He opined that at this point in his career; he needed to start winning tournaments. Thus, he gave himself a chance and ended up winning the ATP 1000 event.

“Coming to this couple of weeks starting here in Shanghai I knew I [had] to give myself a chance, I need to be winning tournaments, so that’s a pretty good start. I mean, just an amazing week here in Shanghai.

I really enjoyed it here with the team, but ultimately, we just want to get better every single day and improve, enjoy those moments, but we’re just going to try our best and then just keep fighting and keep competing,” Hurkacz said post his win.
