Polish tennis star Hubert Hurkacz set an unwanted and unthinkable record for himself as he played against Christopher O’Connell at the Dubai Tennis Championships. As the two players locked horns in the second round of the ATP 500 tournament, the first set went into a tiebreaker. This meant that Hurkacz was playing his ninth consecutive tiebreak.

The Pole won this tiebreak and the second started. Fortunately for Hurkacz, he won it 6-4 and his tiebreak streak was broken. Everyone including the player saw the funny side of it. As Tennis TV shared this piece of news as Breaking News, Hurkacz left a comment on their post.

Notably, this tiebreak sets streak started in Rotterdam when Hurkacz beat Jiri Lehecka in three sets (the last two sets were tiebreakers) in the first round. In the second round, the Pole once again played tiebreakers, this time three. Although he lost, Hurkacz gave it all.

Now, in Dubai, the 27-year-old started his campaign with a win over Jan Lenard Struff. Hurkacz played three tiebreakers again and extended his streak to eight tiebreaker sets. In the second-round match, against O’Connell, Hurkacz started with a tiebreaker set but won the second set cleanly to end his streak.

Fans laud humble Hubert Hurkacz for insane record

This unthinkable record set by Hubert Hurkacz was termed insane by the fans who were impressed with the Pole’s resilience. A fan even claimed that Hurkacz played nine tiebreakers on purpose, to keep himself energized.

Hubi is doing it by purpose to keep energized, electric, and young, and Craig Boyton’s beard is now very nicely equally grey. There's nothing wrong with a tiebreak, fellows. I am ok because I can have beautiful Hubi longer on the court.

Notably, Hubert Hurkacz will next play against Ugo Humbert in the quarterfinals. The Polish ace will be hoping to not play a tiebreak and start another streak.
