The Hungarian Open social media wing is collecting a lot of criticism. It all started with the Hungarian player Amarissa Kiara Toth‘s unsportsmanlike behavior on the court leading to her opponent Zhang Shuai‘s retirement from the tournament. Now, the tournament has come up with explanation defending the Hungarian player, and even calling the Chinese player and media “manipulated” the events.

HUNGARIAN GP described what happened. Amarissa did not decide if the ball was good not. It was the decision of the linesman and then the chair umpire. The Hungarian tennis player in the first WTA main draw match of her life may not have behaved in every situation, but she did nothing that could be described as a lack of integrity.

The tournament didn’t stop there. They even criticized the whole Chinese people as well.

And there is no deflection, no misunderstanding. The Chinese are manipulating the world with a manipulative video.

Tennis Twitter and social media are raging against these remarks by the tournament, that too from the official handle of the tournament.

Why had Zhang Shuai retired mid-match at the Hungarian GP?

The Hungarian World No. 540 Amarissa Toth did one of the most unsportsmanlike conduct, as per many of social media, during the controversial match against the Chinese World No.45 Zhang Shuai. While the match was tied at 5-5 30-30 in the first set, Zhang wanted to recheck the umpire’s out call and while she was closing in to see the ball mark on the clay court, the Hungarian player erased the ball trace with her shoes.

After a lot of arguments about the event, the Chinese player decided to retire from the tournament. Adding more spices to the incident, Tothe celebrated the win with a lot of emotions as well.

Zhang Shuai is already going through a lot of mental pressure, not being able to win a single WTA match since the first-round win in Lyon Open dating back to January 31st. The tennis world is looking forward to seeing how the Chinese player can bounce back from all these back-to-back misfortunes.
