Carlos Alcaraz has had a fantastic season up to this moment. 35 out of 40 games played and four titles have been won by the Spaniard. Alcaraz won his first match of the year by defeating Diego Schwartzman in the Rio Open, 6-4, 6-2. He stormed the Miami Open by beating Casper Ruud and capturing his maiden Masters 1000 championship after losing to fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals.

He hasn’t played on clay since losing to Alexander Zverev in the French Open quarterfinals. The teenage prodigy will be aiming to make Hamburg his fourth victory of the year in addition to the three others. The Spaniard believes he can compete at the highest level.

Carlos Alcaraz beat Karen Khachanov soundly in the quarterfinals of the Hamburg Open on Thursday and then eased past Alex Molcan to reach the final at Hamburg. It was a dominant performance from the young phenom who played at a very high level and made short work of the Russian. Only a match away from winning a 6th career title, the young Spaniard seems to have found an additional motivation: to do better than his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, in Hamburg.

Speaking after the match, he said, “If I win in the semifinals, I would lose his best result here, but what would mean a lot would be to beat him by winning the title. If I do that, I will very much please with him by saying that I am better than him. This could be exciting.

The youngster clearly shares a great camaraderie with his coach and seems the confident head of his semifinal clash with Alex Molcan.
