Serena Williams’ plan for a Wimbledon comeback was kept a secret for a long time, according to Venus Williams, who expressed relief that the news was finally out. The American tennis legend, Serena Williams is all set to make her comeback in this year’s Wimbledon after a long one-year hiatus.
She would first play doubles at Eastbourne with Ons Jabeur and afterwards will swing her racquet on the grass again where she emerged as the champion seven times. She has also received a wild card for the tournament, which begins on Monday, June.
The 40-year-old made a heartbreaking exit in the first round of Wimbledon a year ago after retiring during the first set due to a leg injury, and concerns over her return have grown. Williams, however, took it to Instagram to confirm her comeback to the tournament. She captioned her post with, “SW and SW19. It’s a date. 2022 See you there.”
“I’ve been keeping the secret for a long time”- Venus Williams

Venus Williams admitted to Erin Andrews at BIO2022, that she had kept Serena’s secret for a long time and that it would be wonderful to see her back in action. “I’ve been keeping the secret for a long time and I’m just glad it’s out,” Venus Williams said. “People say I’ve heard and you say I don’t know, you feel like you are lying, lead me out of this. She hasn’t played in a year, I haven’t played any year. It’s going to be great to see her back in action. She’s quite formidable.”
“I’m still in the incubator. It’s (the break) made me appreciate it much more, I have a new love for the game, it’s so much fun and I cannot wait to see her and support her, “ Williams added.
Andrews asked Venus how it felt to watch Serena Williams perform, throughout their discussion. The former World No. 1 admitted that it was nerve-wracking and that she would like to sleep through her finals at times. “Nerve-racking. There will be times when I want to sleep through her final so I can just wake up because I’m nervous. I will wake up anyway and I’m checking the scores, freaking out, all kinds of things. I don’t know why I can’t get used to it because my hopes and dreams are with her, too, you know?”
