Tennis great Novak Djokovic once again fired at the media for all the false accusations over his infamous deportation last year. After last year’s events, he was back on Australian shores and aiming to win a record-breaking 10th Australian Open Grand Slam.
Speaking to the 9news Melbourne, he revealed his frustration over the last year’s incidents here in Melbourne. Novak is always pulled by the media, and this is not new to the Serbian star. Even in the past, he was trolled for his on-court behavior and pulled into controversies unnecessarily.
Speaking to the 9news Melbourne he said, “I was really drawn into a storm in media worldwide that was related to anything to do with COVID and the vaccine. All of a sudden I became the villain of the world which is obviously a terrible position to be in as an athlete.”
That’s not all, as per the tennis sensation himself, these false reports about him took a toll on him and his family. He never came out of his home in Serbia after his deportation. He further added saying “There was not a great narrative in the media about me at all. I stayed for several weeks at home, didn’t really go around too much. I just hoped that the situation would calm down, which it did, but the traces stayed there.”
He continued saying “The traces followed for several months after and I didn’t know it was going to affect my game and the way I play. It was not easy for me mentally to regroup and restart again. The traces of what was happening, I could still feel it. Even if I wanted to move on, people were reminding me of that.”
