Novak Djokovic is one of the most celebrated players in tennis history and rightly so, he has earned every bits of it. The Serbian maestro is regarded as one of the best players of all time and has a huge fan following.
He has won 20 grand slam titles till date and is very well poised to win a few more in the coming years. His fan base, which was mainly in the Balkan region, has significantly grown and is currently worldwide. Many up and coming players have looked up to Djokovic and idolized him. Amongst many, one such player is Ukrainian upcoming star Marta Kostyuk.
The teenager is currently a constant player on the WTA tour and is slowly and steadily rising up the ranks. The Ukrainian, 4 years back in am interview revealed that she looked upto Novak Djokovic.
Time when Marta Kostyuk thought of marrying Novak Djokovic
Back in 2018, when Marta was a 15-year old, she spoke about Djokovic in an interview after winning a tour level match. When asked about whom she idolized growing up, she said that she didn’t look upto anyone in particular but till the time she was nine, she thought that she was going to marry Novak Djokovic when she grew up. She also clarified that she didn’t look up to Djokovic as there’s nothing similar between their games.
“When I was growing up, I didn’t really have an idol. I loved watching Novak Djokovic. In fact, until the age of nine, I believed that he would be my husband. But I didn’t look up to him, we’re not the same on the field. His style is … Well, probably no one has such a style,” she said.
