Rafael Nadal has decided to withdraw from the Monte Carlo Masters, which has delayed his return to the world of tennis. The tennis player, who is currently ranked No. 14 in the world, has been out of competition since he suffered an injury at the Australian Open in January. In a statement, he revealed that he still doesn’t feel “ready” to compete without risking further setbacks, which has raised concerns about his ongoing injury struggles.

Rafael Nadal has announced his official withdrawal from the upcoming Monte Carlo Masters just five days before the main draw is set to begin. Although the Spanish tennis player had been hoping to make his return to the clay court, he recently denied reports that he had confirmed his participation in the Monte Carlo tournament. Following his previous statement of uncertainty about his return, the 36-year-old has now confirmed his withdrawal from the tournament. He acknowledged that he would continue his efforts to make a comeback to the tour.

Unfortunately I am still not ready to compete and will miss one of those special tournaments I always love to play,” Nadal tweeted. Despite the Monte Carlo Masters being an essential tournament in his career, he is unable to participate in it again due to his unpreparedness to compete without the likelihood of sustaining an injury. Nadal will carry on with my recovery process in order to eventually make a comeback.

Since suffering from a hip injury and exiting the Australian Open in the second round, Rafael Nadal has not been playing any matches. Though he fell out of the top-10 rankings for the first time in almost 18 years, the Spanish tennis player has been achieving milestones in other categories.

Rafael Nadal has begun his 1020th week in the top-100, surpassing Andre Agassi who spent 1019 weeks in the top-100. Nadal now has his sights set on Roger Federer‘s record of spending 1161 weeks in the top-100, although this will be difficult as Nadal has been plagued with injuries recently. To match Federer’s record, Nadal will have to maintain his top-100 status for another three years.

In April 2003, when Rafael Nadal was just 16 years old, he made it into the top 100, making him the last player to do so before turning 17 in the last 30 years. He chose to skip junior events and aimed to challenge more experienced players on the professional Tour.
