Drawing parallels between Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz has become one of the favourite activities for tennis fans given the striking similarities the two players have in their careers. Alcaraz was born two years after Nadal turned Pro and the youngster was just 2-years old when Rafa claimed his first Grand Slam title.
Despite the age difference, Alcaraz has broken and matched many records of the Mallorcan in his short career so far. From winning his first title to breaking into the ranks on the Tour, Alcaraz has closely tailed his childhood idol and the prospect of having Nadal and his apparent successor playing at the same time has made increased the excitement in tennis circles.
Former World No. 3 and 2013 French Open runner-up David Ferrer also gave his two cents into the discussion but also spoke that increased and constant comparisons between the two players is not a good idea, especially for Alcaraz who is just into his first full season on the Tour.
“I definitely see similar things between them in terms of ambition and learning ability. It’s not normal for someone as young as Carlos to have such a high level of maturity and play with such confidence in money time. Normally you should feel nervous, but neither Rafa in his early days nor him now feel that. I don’t like to compare them, I think we’re doing Carlos a disservice if we constantly try to do that.
“I think he will have a serious chance of being number 1 in the world and winning several Grand Slam titles, but he now has a whole career ahead of him, you have to let him work. It’s great to be able to enjoy both him and Rafa at the same time,” said Ferrer as reported by welovetennis.
Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz recently attended a football match together

With both ATP and WTA tours currently in Spain for the 2022 Madrid Open, the men’s had some time at their hands before their Masters event kicks off. With the local club Real Madrid very close to winning their league title for the 35th time, Nadal, Alcaraz and the teen’s coach Juan Carlos Ferrero attended the game in Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu, the home stadium of Real Madrid.
Nadal was invited for an honour kick-off prior to the match as Carlos and Ferrero watched from the stands. Nadal has been a member of the club and is often seen in the stands. Alcaraz has also started making a bond with the club as Real Madrid congratulated him on his win in the 2022 Miami Masters. The tennis pros were lucky to witness a comfortable 4-0 win for Real Madrid against Espanyol as the football club lifted the league title in front of their home fans.
