Dominic Stricker is hailed as the ‘next big’ thing in Swiss tennis after the retirement of Roger Federer. The 20-year-old believes he is close to replicating the success of Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune in the coming few years. Dominic Stricker has set a very high benchmark for himself, especially given the fact that he is often seen as Roger Federer’s successor in Swiss tennis.

Dominic Striker is all set to compete in the Next Gen Finals which will be held this week in Milan. The tournament has a unique format, and has proven to be a breeding ground for future stars. The Swiss youngster spoke about prior champions Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, pointing out to the quality of their game at such a young age.

Dominic Striker also heaped praise on Holger Rune, who is probably the most talked about player on the ATP tour at the moment. The Danish prodigy produced an extraordinary run to claim the title in Paris, which includes a last gasp victory over Novak Djokovic in the finals.

They are playing so good at the moment, it’s good to see that already guys my age, they can make the breakthrough. Holger [Rune] as well… It’s great to see, and then you know that you can maybe also get there in a few years or whenever, said Stricker.

Dominic Striker would look to break into the top 100 early next season, with the Australian Open 2023 being his first real test. The Swiss player has won two Challenger events this season, but believes that 2023 could well prove to be his breakthrough season.

Speaking about the likes of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, Dominic Striker believes that his level is not far away from the duo, and he expects to get there more sooner rather than later. “These guys are doing a great job and I don’t see that there’s a big gap between us, but I just have to keep doing my thing and it will come, I hope,” he added.

Dominic Striker has trained with the best in the business, Roger Federer on a couple of occasions. The youngster sees the 20-time major champion as his idol, and believes that there are similarities in respect to their playing style.

Of course, if you live in Switzerland…My one big idol [had to be] Roger Federer. Roger is Swiss and has a pretty similar game to how I would like to play,” he added.

After what we have seen in the recent months, we can safely say that the future of men’s tennis is in very good hands. Dominic Stricker could be a new addition to the Next Gen stars if manages to realize his potential next season.
