“I feel he can withstand the barrage,” Jim Courier backs Stefanos Tsitsipas to beat Alexander Zverev in the semifinals in Rome

Alexander Zverev will be taking on Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinals of the Italian Open. While Zverev got the better of Chile’s Cristian Garin in straight sets, Tsitsipas faced the Jannik Sinner test and came out with flying colours. Both the players are in good form and have developed a great rivalry.
The Greek defeated Zverev in the Monte Carlos Masters and eventually went on to win the title whereas the German defeated the World No.5 to reach the finals in Madrid where he eventually lost to Carlos Alcaraz. So this will be a very intense battle between two players who are playing their best tennis at the moment.
Recently while discussing his favourite for the semifinal clash in Rome, Jim Courier kept his point forward by picking Stefanos Tsitsipas in the epic semifinal clash. “I feel it will flip back to (Stefano) Tsitsipas who is got the better in the overall head to head. It has been much more in his favour. I think the altitude really helped Sascha Zverev in the first serve aswell as his groundstrokes. When it comes to movement there is no doubt that Tsitsipas defends better than Zverev, Sascha is still very good don’t get me wrong.”

Speaking on the recent performances Courier highlighted how Zverev won’t get an advantage due to altitude as Rome is near sea level and things will event out for Tsitsipas. “I think because we are in very slower conditions in sea level in Rome. Tsitsipas will be able to withstand the barrage, the offence that Zverev showed in Madrid and can turn things around,” Courier added.
Both Zverev and Tsitsipas have reached the semi-finals with a relentless attacking game plan. But Courier keeps the Greek ahead in terms of the defensive side of things. He also feels that Tsitsipas’ movement will give him an edge over his opponent in the semifinals. The German has beaten the likes of Sebastian Baez, Alex de Minaur and Cristian Garin in his run to the semifinals at the Italian Open. Zverev is yet to drop a set in the event whereas Tsitsipas has had a tougher road to the last four as he defeated the likes of Grigor Dimitrov, Karen Khachanov and Jannik Sinner. He had tough outings against Dimitrov and Khachanov as both matches went into the third set and were hard-fought wins.
