Simona Halep, the former world number one, is all set and excited for the semi-final clash between Halep and Jessica Pegula at the Canadian Open. She defeated Coco Gauff in the quarter-finals in straight sets to make another appearance in the semi-finals. She had also made it into the semi-finals at the Wimbledon Championship 2022 but lost to the eventual champion Elena Rybakina.

Halep has won 23 WTA Tour singles titles and finished runner-up 18 times but has been struggling to be at the top since her win at Wimbledon in 2019 due to injuries. She won her first title of the year at the Melbourne Summer Series 1 event defeating Veronika Kudermetova in straight sets and this win came back after a gap of two years. She has also been fairly consistent with her performances this year as she reached the semi-finals of other WTA events of the year namely the Dubai Tennis Championship, Indian Well Masters, Birmingham Classic, and Bad Homburg Open.

Halep was contemplating quitting last season and also had retirement thoughts at the start of the season after her association with Darren Cahill ended. But the Romanian is now quite happy and confident in her game under coach Patrick Mouratoglou who is one of the respected coaches and has also helped players in uplifting their careers to new heights like Serena Williams, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, and many others.

The Romanian credited Mouratoglou for rediscovering her game as it has positively impacted her game and she is in a better mindset now with a lot of positivity around her. She said “Mentally I’m strong, although I hesitated a bit today in the second set, but I had the ability to stay in the game. I feel like my game is in place, mentally and physically, I’m fine, everything is positive.

She also shared that she has started falling in love with herself more and she is very comfortable being around the company of the French coach who makes sure that I also enjoy playing. She further added, “I always say I’m a hard worker. This is the reason why I can play great matches.  Now I love myself more in all aspects. I feel better and more confident. I do things with a more positive approach
