Iga Swiatek won the 2022 Roland Garros for the second time in her career, extending her winning streak to 35 matches by defeating Coco Gauff 6-3 6-1.

Swiatek dominated the contest for the most part. She was anticipated to do so because she had previously competed and won the title.  It was evident from the start that she was the more composed player, as Coco Gauff’s first serve game was lost. From there it was largely cruise-control for her as she cruised to a 6-1 opening set win.

The second set got off to a good start for Coco Gauff, who began with a more aggressive style that succeeded for a while. Swiatek was up 2-0 early, but she was able to draw it back to 2-2 once she settled in and refocused. Later on, she added another break to take control of the match and finish it with a score of 6-3. Gauff put up a good effort, but it wasn’t enough in the end. Swiatek had 18 wins and 16 unforced errors, compared to 14 winners and 23 unforced errors for Gauff. Swiatek has now won the French Open twice in her career.

After her victory, in a press conference, Iga Swiatek said she is more prepared now to win more Grand Slams. She said, “Amazing, honestly. It’s so much different than 2020 Roland-Garros because right now I feel like I am more ready to what’s coming and I feel more prepared and more solid because it was so pretty hectic 2 years ago and right now I am even ready to serve a little bit more.”

“With everything that wS going on, I am also like more aware of how it is to win a Grand Slam and what it takes and how every puzzle has to you know come together and basically every aspect of the game has to work. With that awareness, I was even more happy and even more proud of myself. In 2020, I just felt I was lucky you know and this time I feel like I really did the work,” she added.
