Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, is the Patron of the All-England Club that oversees the organisation of the Wimbledon Championships, one of the four Grand Slams in tennis. One of the oldest tennis tournaments in the world, the Wimbledon title is dubbed the most prestigious title to be won by any player and is often one of the most-watched events in the sport.
Kate became a member of the Royal Family after her marriage to Prince Williams, Duke of Cambridge, in 2011 and since then has held many positions of importance and is often one of the visitors of the famous ‘Royal Box’ on Center Court at the All-England Club. Until 2021, Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent was the President of the All-England Club but the 86-year-old Royal stepped down last year and while it is not yet official, the Duchess of Cambridge is seen as the replacement to head the prestigious club.
Kate Middleton was stopped from going to the 2013 Wimbledon Finals
Kate, an avid tennis lover was one of the many enthusiasts looking to attend the 2013 Wimbledon Finals between Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic with Murray looking favourite to end Britain’s wait of 77 years for a British male champion at the Slam. While Murray did go on to claim the title in straight-sets, the Duchess had to catch the action on TV as she was not allowed to watch it live from the Royal Box.
