“I have another chance to claw my way back up there!” Emma Raducanu still optimistic after heartbreaking loss at the US Open as her title defense comes to an end

Emma Raducanu

Emma Raducanu, the 19-year-old British prodigy took the world by a storm last year as she triumphed in the US Open after beating Leylah Fernandez in the finals of the tournament. What was more impressive is that Emma Raducanu won the tournament coming in it as a qualifier.

After taking the tennis world by storm last year, Raducanu has had an underwhelming season this time around. She has faced early exits in every major competition she has competed in and her title defense at this year’s US Open was also cut short as she was quickly eliminated by French professional Alize Cornet in the first round.

Coming to the US Open to defend her title which she won in fantastic fashion last year, Emma Raducanu wasn’t able to live off her hype one again as she bowed out of the US Open in the first round after losing to French professional Alize Cornet in straight sets by 6-3, 6-3. In her post-match press conference, Emma Raducanu talked about her loss.

She said, “Well, I mean, obviously really disappointing, really sad to leave here. It’s probably my favorite tournament. But also, I mean, in a way happy because it’s a clean slate. I’m going to drop down the rankings. Climb my way back up, In a way, the target will be off my back slightly. Yeah, I just have another chance to claw my way back up there. I’ve been doing some really good work in the last six weeks especially. Yeah, just looking forward to kind of putting more of those weeks together consistently, then we’ll see what happens.”

It seems like Raducanu isn’t going to give up and she knows that the key to getting back on top is consistency, on the other hand, after beating Raducanu, Alize Cornet is scheduled to face Kateřina Siniaková in the second round of the tournament.
