American big-serving giant Maxime Cressy has made amazing grounds this season. He stunned everyone by starting the season with a runner-up finish at the Melbourne Summer set where he lost to Rafael Nadal. He then made it to the Round of 16 of the Australian Open. He then had a rough patch but bounced back on grass where he made it to the final at Eastbourne.

A lot was expected from him at Wimbledon and he even stunned 6th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the opening round. But he then lost in the second round to Jack Sock. Last week at Newport, he won his first Tour title where he defeated Alexander Bublik in the final in three sets 2-6,6-3,7-6(3).

After his title victory, Cressy spoke to ATPTour.com about his rise in the last few months. Cressy acknowledged how he has moved up the rankings in the last few months and believes that he has what it takes to be number 1 in the world.

“The way I’ve moved up the rankings in just two years makes me realize that I have what it takes to be number 1 in the world and I believe that after winning this title and being in the top 30, this conviction will not leave me,” he said.

Cressy has a very different and old-school flair to his game. He is one of the very few players on the tour that follows the serve and volley game and contrary to others, he has been very successful in doing that.

He said that he wants to be an inspiration to many new players and wants to revive the serve-volley game. “I would like to be an inspiration to many gamers, allowing the service‐net game to become important again,” he said.
