Emma Raducanu‘s injury misery doesn’t seem to have an end. The British teenager has already struggled with form post her US Open triumph but has slowly and steadily started to become consistent. She was doing well this clay season with a couple of strong outings at Stuttgart and Madrid but her hopes of doing well at Rome crashed in the first round itself.

Raducanu was facing 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu in the opening round but to her dismay, she didn’t arrive in 100% fitness and had a back injury. As a result, Raducanu lost the first set easily 2-6 and after Bianca got the first break of serve in the second set, Emma decided to hand the Canadian a walkover and hence lost the match 2-6,1-2.

After the match, Emma said that her will to play at every opportunity is probably what cost her. She also said that she needs to be more sensible in terms of what her body says and her scheduling.

“Of course, I want to play every opportunity I have, and probably even when I shouldn’t. But I just really need to be sensible. Sometimes I feel I need a voice to just hold my hand, Do this, do that. Yeah, I hope that I can just get my back right and my body fully fit,” she said.
