Nick Kyrgios is having a dream run at the US Open. He defeated American J.J Wolf in the third round to secure a place in the round of 16 where he will play a long-time rival, Daniil Medvedev. Recently, Kyrgios was under much scrutiny after he got a code violation for spitting on his player’s box in the second-round match against Benjamin Bonzi. But now the World No. 25 has put all this behind him to focus on his next match.

Unlike his Wimbledon run, Kyrgios is trying his best to maintain his composure during his matches. He’s already having a great season after winning the Citi Open title and achieving the runner-up position at Wimbledon after he lost to Novak Djokovic. Nick Kyrgios and Daniil Medvedev last met in Montreal during the Canadian Open where the Australian star prevailed in the round of 32. Now his US Open journey so far has got all the attraction.

In the post-match press conference after the third round, Kyrgios claimed that he might be the one to beat Medvedev. He said, “Well, I know my game plan if it’s Medvedev. I’m happy if I win or lose playing that way. Like, I’m definitely going to play a certain way against him. I’m happy to lose that way and I’m happy to win that way. I think my level is right there. I think there are only a few players right now who are playing a better level of tennis than I am, if not the same.”

He further added, “Not many players can say that right now, going in to play Medvedev at the US Open. Like, they’re going to go out there, but I don’t think they’re down the other end of the court knowing they’re going to win. I feel like I’m definitely one of the players that has a chance. With the way I’m playing right now, I have a chance.”

Nick Kyrgios and Daniil Medvedev’s match will be one of the most interesting matches at the US Open considering their huge rivalry which has evolved this year.
