Rafael Nadal showed once again why is he called the ‘King of Clay’. The Spaniard who was out of play since the Indian Wells tournament because of his rib injury won his first match back against the in-form Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic in the Madrid Open on Wednesday. The Spaniard won in straight sets, although the second set proved to be a tough set to beat with the final score being 6-1, 7(7) -6-(4).
The 21-time Grand Slam winner will next face David Goffin in the next round and will look to keep the trail alive to win his sixth title on his home ground. Fans were also extremely delighted over his win and the Spaniard later commented that his rib had healed and he was happy to have beat an on-form opponent.

Nadal was scheduled to start his Clay season at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters but the injury in Indian Wells ruined his plans. But with his return against Kecmanovic in the second round in Caja Magica, despite the lack of practice, the Spaniard showed that he is still a dominant force on the surface.
Post the match, the Spaniard was heard saying that he was extremely happy with the news and the fact that his training paid off. The Spaniard later told the reporters, “I leave the match very, very happy. You have to be sincere with yourself … my preparation has not existed. You cannot expect great things at the beginning.”
The World no.4 revealed that the rib injury was one of the biggest issues about the training as it was not perfect and came with its own set of problems as the rib injury did not allow the tennis sensation to do anything. But Nadal is not too worried and is positive that it will all work out.
“All trainings have had some up-and-downs, it’s been a roller coaster. I have had better days, worse days. At the end of the day, the rib is a problem that limits your game a lot. There are injuries that allow you to do physical work, and aerobic work. The rib has not allowed me to do anything … but I’m not worried. I just think that every minute that I am out there on the court is something positive.”
But on a happier note, fans will be pleased to hear that the 35-year-old’s rib has healed, and now there is absolutely no pain or problems. Although it was hurting at the beginning of the week, it did not pose any problems in the present.
“I don’t have any pain in my rib. I had a little bit of pain at the beginning of the week, and then I went to get an MRI so they could check it, Friday or Saturday when I came here, and the image on the machine was good,” said Rafael as per the reports of Times of India.
