“I really hope we can play together” Andy Murray excited for Roger Federer’s comeback
Roger Federer, Andy Murray
Andy Murray has not been very active in recent years due to his hip injury and his comeback tour, which started in Australia wasn’t much success either. He has been showing some great tennis once in a while, but consistency is a big problem for the former world number 1. He had defeated the likes of Dominic Thiem and Denis Shapovalov in the only clay-court tournament he played this season.
Murray is currently playing in the Stuttgart Open as the two-time Wimbledon champion is getting ready for the Championships. Murray feels like he has been doing better this year in regards to his movement and tennis overall. He is hoping for more consistency in his game as he aims to pull up his fallen ATP ranking. Murray is also hopeful that he could have a chance to compete against Roger Federer once again.
Federer has been out of the ATP Tour due to the knee surgery he went through after a quarterfinals loss at Wimbledon. Roger is looking to make a comeback on the tour and he has already signed up for the Laver Cup, where he will play the doubles event with his friend and arch-rival Rafael Nadal. He is also expected to play Swiss Indoors Basel in October.
Andy Murray would love to compete against Roger Federer again.
Roger Federer and Andy Murray have played each other 25 times with Federer leading the head-to-head 14-11. Federer has won all 5 of their last 5 encounters. In an interview with ATP’s official website, Murray said: “I would love to see Roger back playing again,”
He said: “It’s always difficult to know when the end is. Obviously, people have been talking about it for many years. The next generation have come through, [but] the same guys are still winning the Grand Slams and I’d love to see Roger back competing again.“I don’t know his situation, but I believe he will get back to competing. I don’t know how long for, but I really hope we can play another tournament together. It’s been a long time.”
Federer is likely to miss out on his first Wimbledon this year and looks like the first tournament for the Swiss legend would be the Laver Cup. Murray however, has laid out his plans for the grass season to play tournaments and get ready for the Wimbledon.
