Dominic Thiem, the 28-year-old Austrian played a good tournament in Bastad at the Swedish Open winning two matches in a row beating Emil Ruusuvuori in the round of 32 and Roberto Bautista Agut in the round of 16 before losing to Sebastian Baez in the quarter-finals which ended his run.
Thiem continued his good form at the Swiss Open where he beat Hugo Gaston in the round of 32 and Federico Delbonis in the round of 16 today by 7-6(8), 6-3 ,and qualifying for the quarter-finals where he is scheduled to Peruvian face Juan Pablo Varillas tomorrow. Thiem recorded his first ATP-level win in 14 months against Ruusuvuori after coming back from a wrist injury.

Thiem recovered from a 5-2 lead in the first set, saving two set points in the process. After the win, the Austrian talked about how every win means so much to him especially after coming back from an injury, every win gives him more and more confidence and the only way to get back on top once again.
Thiem said, “Every win is so important right now and I got great energy from my box, they also knew that the first set was crucial and the key to the match. I am coming from [reaching] the quarters in Bastad and I really wanted to back it up here in Gstaad. I have won two matches which means a lot to me right now. I really need those ranking points. Every match win is something very special.”
“The key moment was that set point save, I thought I was playing well the whole match. I was in control in the first set, but then I didn’t play a good game when serving for the set and it was close. He can play really heavy here, especially in altitude. Those two set points saved plus winning that tie-break was the key.” Thiem added further speaking with the ATP tour.
