20-year-old Lorenzo Musetti recently won his first ever ATP tournament at the 2022 Hamburg Open, defeating top-seed and championship favorite Carlos Alcaraz. In an intense final between the two young players, Musetti prevailed 6-4, 6-7(8), 6-4. The contest went right down to the wire before Musetti won the match and the trophy.

Lorenzo had a chance to win in straight sets, but Alcaraz played some incredible moments to force a tiebreaker and win the second set. The Italian player broke a game off Alcaraz in the third set, turning the tide and winning the match. With this victory, Lorenzo will enter the ATP Top 50 at position No. 31, making his Top 50 debut.

Titled for the first time in his career on the ATP circuit, at the young age of 20, Lorenzo Musetti showed what he is made of by giving a superlative performance against an in-form Carlos Alcaraz in Hamburg. Now ranked no. 31 in the world, the Italian has expressed his plans for the future in a conversation with the Gazzetta Dello Sport.

I think I showed what I’m worth. Of course, we are leaving here to improve. I want to see where I can go; the goal is to get as close as possible to the top 10 and go further in the Grand Slam tours,” revealed Musetti whose best result in a grand slam remains to reach the round of 16, losing to Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros.

Musetti will now play the Croatia Open where he’s seeded 8th and could once again meet Alcaraz in the final if both the players go all the way.
