“I started crying when he won Wimbledon,” Boris Becker says Novak Djokovic supported him when he was in prison
Novak Djokovic claimed his seventh Wimbledon title last year, after defeating Nick Kyrgios in the final.
Novak Djokovic, Boris Becker
The German tennis legend Boris Becker was Novak Djokovic’s coach for three successful years from 2013–2016. Boris Becker was sent to prison after being convicted on four counts of violating Britain’s Insolvency Act. The German made a surprising revelation about how Novak Djokovic and his family supported him during his tough time in prison.
Boris Becker was imprisoned in London, just a couple of miles away from the All England Lawn Tennis Club. He revealed that Novak Djokovic made special efforts to stay in touch with him and his family during his imprisonment. The former player also said that he had tears of joy when Novak Djokovic claimed the Wimbledon title last year.
Boris Becker believes that he is truly grateful to have been a part of Novak Djokovic’s career and considers him the greatest tennis player of all-time. Recently, the Serb claimed his 22nd Major title at the 2023 Australian Open.

Novak Djokovic had a roller coaster ride in 2022, where he was not allowed to compete at two Grand Slam events. The 35-year-old was deported back to Serbia, ahead of the Australian Open last year owing to vaccination requirements. However, he came back stronger later in the year, winning his seventh Wimbledon title.
“While I was in prison, Novak Djokovic supported me, he supported my family. I started crying when he won Wimbledon. I am very proud that the greatest player of all time is part of this story,” said Becker.
Novak Djokovic defeated Nick Kyrgios in the finals in four sets to claim his 21st Grand Slam title. The Serb is just one Wimbledon title away from leveling Roger Federer’s record of eight titles. After his triumph in Melbourne earlier this year, Novak Djokovic reclaimed his world number-one ranking spot from Carlos Alcaraz. The Serb has enjoyed an unbeaten start to the season and will look to continue the same as he returns to action in Dubai next week.
