“I think it’s incredible that he’s standing by his principles,” Renowned political journalist defends Novak Djokovic’s stance on his vaccination status
Novak Djokovic, Julia Hartley-Brewer
Novak Djokovic, the 35-year-old Serbian went on to win his 21st Grand Slam after defeating Nick Kyrgios by 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (3) at the 2022 Wimbledon finals, the win saw him win his fourth Wimbledon title in a row and his seventh total Wimbledon title. The victory saw him overtake Roger Federer’s Grand Slam tally and just one title behind Rafael Nadal.
Djokovic has always been subject to criticism and controversy regarding his Covid-19 vaccination status, currently, his vaccination status is going to prevent him from competing at the US Open unless he gets an exemption. With the newly issued rules by the US government, there have been no relaxations for unvaccinated people and as things stand, Djokovic will miss the US Open.
“You should be able to make a choice,” Julia Hartley-Brewer believes that it’s Novak Djokovic’s choice to not get vaccinated
British radio presenter, Julia Hartley-Brewer on the Piers Morgan show defended Djokovic on his vaccination status, she said, “You should be able to make a choice. Bodily autonomy is the most fundamental human right. Novak Djokovic isn’t asking for special treatment. He’s not asking for special treatment, he’s simply said ‘I’m not vaccinated, I’m not showing my vaccine status and therefore I can’t play in the US open it.’ I think it’s incredible that he’s standing by his principles. He’s a young healthy man.”
Piers Morgan disagreed with Hartley-Brewer’s opinion saying “I don’t think you should be allowed to go anywhere near the US Open. Because, if I want to go to America, which I will be quite soon, I have to take a test and show my vaccinations dates, that’s it.” It seems like Djokovic’s vaccination status will continue to be a hot topic among the media for an elongated period of time and only time will tell if the Serbian will be allowed to participate in the US Open or not.
