“I took the energy from the crowd more this time than other years,” Garbine Muguruza confident of creating history at the Madrid Open
Garbine Muguruza
Garbine Muguruza has made her mark of her presence in the Madrid Open by defeating Ajla Tomljanovic and thereby progressing to the next round.
The Spaniard got her sweet revenge when she defeated Ajla Tomljanovic in the Madrid Open. After all, it was against this player that Muguruza lost to in the Indian Wells tournament. The world no. 9 is playing her first match since her loss in the Indian Wells tournament. Still the tennis star went on to show her real potential and skill.
Garbine Muguruza and her journey so far
The world no. 9 and former French and Wimbledon Open champion looked a little out of it in the beginning, but as she began playing the match, she soon got back her form and overwhelmed Ajla Tomljanovic in the first set with a score of 7-5. The second set was comparatively more straightforward as she won it with a score of 6-2.
On winning the match, the World no. 9 then said, “I went out without a lot of expectation, not knowing with lack of matches how it was gonna feel out there, but that’s it,”
“I took the energy from the crowd more this time than other years. In other years, I can’t get over sometimes the nerves.“
She further adds, “I would be delighted to produce my best tennis in Madrid and every year I come with that mentality. Madrid has always placed pressure on me because it’s a very important tournament for me, the only (major) tournament we [have] in Spain.”
The Spaniard will next face Anhelina Kalinina and fabs hope that she is the one victorious in the outcome. The French Open and Wimbledon Open Grand Slam will finally prove herself as she shows the world the reason she won those Grand Slams. Garbine Muguruza is hoping to further her progress beyond the round of 16 as that was her best in the Madrid Open, whereas Tomljanovic is hardly happy with the news considering the fact that the Australian just recently had risen to her career-best of 38. We hope both of them can progress further in the future.
